The next step is a series of meetings with allied groups and individuals to narrow our focus and get the word out. A tremendous amount of support is necessary to make LiveStreets a reality.

Coastal Community Foundation Input

We had an excellent meeting with the Coastal Community foundation about the LiveStreets idea. They gave us a bunch of technical advice in moving forward, as well as some great new ideas. Some of the big takeaways for the meeting were:

1. Start small and keep your goals practical
2. Put in a lot of planning up front and don't just jump into it (we hope that's what we are doing)
3. Consider working under the umbrella of an established non-profit for a few years
4. The alliances seem to be the key to this venture, so get to work on sealing those
5. Expect a lot of work for a long period of time to get LiveStreets off the ground

The CCF also directed us to some excellent sources for setting up a non-profit, as well as some potentially beneficial contacts. Big thanks to everyone at the CCF!!!

taking it to the streets -- for the streets -- for all of us

we are very excited about this idea. we are so tired of seeing huge amounts of money spent on streets with no thought for anything except running cars through as fast as possible. many people accept this because they don't know other options exist. but they do exist. and they make our communities safer, more enjoyable, and more beautiful. granted, all of these ideas may not be easily found in the aashto standards but that is where the revolution begins!

What an amazing concept, perhaps following the important adage "Think Globally, Drink Locally?"

Would love to see some suggestive focus on certain areas -- both sides of the bridge, new park to Shem Creek, Mt. Pleasant. People are clamoring for connectivity and lifestyle, but many only know what they like when they see it.

HELP NEEDED!!!!

We need your help to make it! This is a brainstorming blog. We have a vision to create an organization that raises local awareness to demand complete streets in our region. Complete streets should accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, handicapped citizens, as well as vehicles. We also want to raise money to help convert existing dangerous streets into pedestrian friendly ones. We have published our preliminary vision on this site. Please share your thoughts and ideas with us to better our vision. We want Live Streets to be a big success, and facilitate some great changes in our area.
